WHAT’S HAPPENING

New Travel Advice (o5.07.2012)

Apparently, the sales staff at XiNanMen Bus Station still have not received word that Ganzi Prefecture (at least most of it) is open to foreign travelers.  Hence, you will have to use one of the following options to get up to Kangding:

• Kangding Hotel (Kangding Bingguan) has a daily bus departing to Kangding and they will sell you tickets the day before.
• Outside Kangding Hotel you can also buy a seat in one of the many private vehicles heading up to Kangding.
• Chengdu North Bus Station is selling tickets to foreigners.
• Bus stations outside Chengdu are selling tickets to foreigners (Er Mei Shan, Leshan, Meshan, Ya’an, etc)
• Kangding Airport is open and foreigners can purchase tickets

Alternative:

Have a local Chinese friend purchase a ticket for you on the 9am bus at the XiNanMen Bus station.  The driver of the 9:00am bus is very friendly to foreigners and will most likely not think twice about letting you on board.

Drive in or fly in. . . the airport is open.
