If you don’t have five days, but you want to see Gonga mountain and the monastery, you can do the trip in three days, starting from our hostel.

4. Paoma Mountain is a local trek that offers amazing views of Kangding. You have the option of taking a cable car both up and down the mountain for a fee, or choosing the free walk instead. The top of the mountain features a buddist temple, a museum, a lake and an evergreen forest. This mountain was the inspiration for a well-known love song written in the 1990’s.

5. Another rewarding trek is located right behind Zhilam Hostel. Take a 1.5-3hr hike up Julian Mountain, which brings you to a really beautiful grassland complete with yaks and horses.

6. MuGeTso alpine lake lies at an elevation of 3780 meters. This lake is located about 26 km outside of Kangding and offers many hiking trails that go above the main lake, offering sweeping views of the surrounding moutains.

7. Another amazing area is Ya Jia Geng mountain pass, located about 30 kms south of Kangding and rising to around 3800 meters. This area offers breathtaking panoramic views of glaciated peaks that rise well over 6000 meters.
